Nick Trautmann is a Connecticut-born bassist who has been living and performing in New York City since 2015. Nick earned a B.A./B.M. in Jazz Studies and Music Theory from the University of Connecticut, where he studied upright bass under Gregg August. His studies continued in Paris at IRCAM with Eastman School of Music’s “Theory and Analysis of Contemporary Music” program. Nick has toured internationally with BMA award-winning artist Vanessa Collier and is currently the musical director and bassist for American Idol alum Drew Angus. Nick’s funk, fusion, and prog-rock inspired playing style can be best heard in his Brooklyn-based progressive soul band Valipala. Nick is currently on the faculty of School of Rock Williamsburg, where he gets to pass on his love of music to the next generation.
